Just so I don’t forget…

this poem was on a forum and I want to use it in future on a layout!!

Boys in my House
Author: Erin Jo Kilmer
There are boys in my house – and Spiderman shoes
And 200 papers in various blues.
There’s Bob (he’s a builder) and Thomas the Train,
There’s a fireman coat to wear in the rain.
They have cars on their shirts and frogs on their hats
There’s a glove and a ball and a red plastic bat.
There’s dirt on a face and a smudge on a nose;
Grass stains on knees and sand between toes.
There’s bathtime at night with bodies to scrub,
And when we’re all done there is dirt in the tub!
There’s bandaids and bruises and curious bumps,
There’s smiles and laughter and sometimes there’s grumps.
There’s odors most icky; there’s boogers so green
There’s more yucky things than I’ll ever get clean.
There’s piles of laundry; there’s stories at night;
There’s bedtime and bathtime and dinnertime fights.
There’s cars and there’s trains and there’s books about trucks
There’s Scoop, Lofty, Dizzy, and Travis, and Muck.
Sometimes there are bugs, and sometimes there are frogs;
Sometimes they are lions, or dinos, or dogs.
There are cute little vests and darling neckties
Dragged right through the mud – oh what a surprise!
There’s running and climbing and jumping and falling
And laughing and crying and hugging and brawling
And rolling and losing and finding and creeping
And whining and stealing and sometimes there’s sleeping.
There’s tantrums and time outs and extra loud noise -
There’s love in my house shaped like two little boys.

Done and dusted… bring on the new one…

Posted by Louise on Dec 30, 2009 in Family Updates

Christmas wasn’t what I’d hoped this year, being Lukey’s first one I wanted it to be special but really never ‘felt’ it this year. I tried everything to get into the spirit – Franklin Road, Trail of Lights, umpteen visits to Santa, Christmas music, baking… everything and just when I’d started to feel it on Christmas Eve, Joshie struck. He was abominable. Every year after kindy closes we spend the first week or two getting him back to normal. He gets so hyped up over the kindy parties, Santa visits, wrapping presents – the whole shebang that it takes a couple of weeks for him to wind down again. Consequently Christmas Eve he was sent to bed early in disgrace and I very almost didn’t get the presents out… I was so angry with him for ruining a special night. Again. Anyway he woke up crying after a couple of hours (he always does if I’ve been angry with him before bed) and we had a cuddle and yes, I got the presents out. Christmas morning he was fine but pretty much deteriorated the more tired he got. I don’t blame him really, he’s only 4 and hyped up on Christmas sugar (everywhere we went he seemed to be given a lolly!) and the present thing. Still, it made for a not-great Christmas in the most part. Just wore me out and made me want the whole damned thing over and done with.

Anyway, I did take some pics from Chrissy morning as that was nice… and yes, that IS Joshie’s pile of presents!! He wasn’t going to get that many this year but we ended up at the Hasbro employee night presale and there was so much stuff soooo cheap that I couldn’t resist… well Santa couldn’t!

Lucas got a lovely blow up bed/gym thingy and a new rattle (among other things!) that he took to straight away…

The aftermath…

Note the self-inflicted scratch and excessive drool… LOL

Before it all just got too much for him…

When he woke up he had some time with his new kicky gym, he’s a quick learner. It only took one kick for him to figure out the bear made music when he kicked the ball…

Boxing Day was spent with Deb, Richard, David and friends and was a welcome change from doing the rellie thing. We get on with most of our rellies ok but it was a really nice break to be able to relax and chill out in a different environment iykwim? After 2 Christmas’s with everyone I really didn’t want to do a Boxing Day with them too. Joshie loved the water slide (after a brief meltdown at the beginning) and insisted on wearing his new goggles as he’s usually pretty opposed to water… :)

As usual the food was yummy thanks to Deb’s overcatering in the nicest way ;) and we’re now all on a health kick as we’re sooo over the rich, heavy Christmas type foods. We got a ridiculous amount of chocolates and goodies so gave 11 boxes away to the Hospice (yes that IS eleven!!) and we still had around 6 boxes left! We’ve munched through a few of those but I’m pretty much off the sweet stuff now, and my NY resolution this year will definitely be to cook healthy, nutritious family meals that will get Joshie eating properly. We’ve made a lot of progress with him in the last few months (he’ll now try different meats, vegetables and fruits) but he’s not eating them in any quantity to fill him up and get the benefits of the nutrients. He’s beginning to ‘get’ the difference between treats and healthy food and I’m sure by end of this year we’ll be pretty much right. :)

Lukey’s been tired today, I took the boys for a swim (his first) yesterday morning and I think he was a bit overstimulated as he was a bit hard to settle yesterday evening and has been crashed out most of today! Joshie fell asleep in the car too so must remember to take them swimming more often… lol

Have a wonderful New Years, we’re just going to relax outside and see the new year in by ourselves, drinks in hand, a platter of nibbles and some nice music on…

Franklin Road and a new baby…

Posted by Louise on Dec 23, 2009 in Family Updates

Firstly NOPE, I’m not pregnant again… but Santa did visit early. It’d been sitting, taunting me from its box in the lounge for the last two weeks and today I relented and opened my new Cricut Expression. I really have resisted the whole diecutting thing, only recently getting a cuttlebug for embossing mostly but sheeze… I cannot live without this thing already!!

Sooo here’s some piccies of a layout I did with my first play… using a gorgeous new Twiddleybitz Hanging Lantern Post – it’s so detailled it pretty much finishes a page by itself!! I used some flowersoft in Christmas green and lots of dimensional pearl paint and distress stickles. Loving my new cricut for cutting out words and scrolls (with the home decor cartridge)… and finally added a wee heart charm from Nostalgems.

Also a big thank you to all the people who put up their lights along Franklin Road and the surrounding streets, it was just gorgeous! I took the boys and mum along to see some lights in an attempt to get some Christmas cheer going and we decided that we’d brave Franklin Road for the first time. We got there as it was just getting dark and managed to get a parking spot in a side street, and walked up and down the road. There was Christmas music, hot chocolate to buy and Santa giving lollies to the kids. There was a puppet show and more for entertainment, and the lights themselves were just beautiful… rather than go on and on I’ll show you a few piccies, they’re not great and don’t do the street justice but you get the idea (and I’m  saving for a DSLR next year!!)…

If I don’t get back on here before Christmas, I hope you all have a wonderful one and a safe New Year!!

Prima fans all round…

Posted by Louise on Dec 21, 2009 in Family Updates

Sooo here’s my little guy Lucas, 3 months old and already loves playing with Prima almost as much as I do…

Ok so for him it’s admittedly the crinkly packaging, for me it’s all of it but I don’t mind sharing ;)

Been a busy few weeks leading up to Christmas, am still working on some layouts with some Gorgeous (with a capital G!) new Twiddleybitz which I’m hoping to share with you very soon!

A certain Mr 4 has been a bit demonic this last few days so he’s eaten into my scrapping time somewhat. He’s coming down from a year of kindy, a week of parties and too many treats… and is building up for the big day. So nice to see him so excited though, he really is starting to know what it’s all about this year so it’ll be so much fun to see his face on Christmas morning.

He’s been mass producing presents for me this past week too, the other day he gave me a piece of paper… wrapped in a piece of paper… lmao! We’ve gone through almost a ream of paper plus a roll of tape in the last 5 days and it’s all due to him. I haven’t the heart to say no more (ok I HAVE said that but I weaken when he batts those gorgeous eyelashes at me) and we have little packages of nothing all over the house, I think we’ll be finding them until Easter. ;)

As for me, despite my best efforts I’m just not feeling it this year. I’m going to do the light trail tonight in an attempt to get into it (we were meant to go last night but Joshie’s behaviour… well that’s another story) and have been baking Christmas cookies too. Hopefully they’ll last longer than the last lot which disappeared mysteriously overnight (hmm and Steve was up VERY late)…

Anyhoo, behind the scenes I’m busy on something I can’t tell you about yet, but it’s something I’m enjoying doing regardless of whether it works out or not ;) time will tell.
