Fingers in pies…

Posted by Louise on Jan 26, 2010 in Eidou, Family Updates, Scrapbooking

It’s been a bit of a busy few weeks since the New Year. Joshie’s gone back to kindy with a sigh of relief (I’m sure most parents will relate) and he’s happy to be back. He missed his friends over the Christmas break and although we did meet up with some of them, it wasn’t the same as at kindy.

And I’ve been busy. I’m back to working again (well doing as much as I can with a “now-busy-look-at-me-mummy-I’m-here-don’t-ignore-me-or-even-think-about-typing-that” baby) and I’ve also been working on a few pet projects, namely my Eidou site. It’s my other baby. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and it’s coming back together in a form more suited to me being able to manage it! It’s basically where I can sell everything I decide to create, and I do a lot of stuff you’ve probably never seen.

Before I tried scrapbooking I’d tried everything else. Seriously. I mean EVERYTHING.

Jewellery making (not very good but enjoyed it).
Candle making (don’t even GO there).
Knitting (I’m pretty damned good at that one).
Macrame (it WAS the 70′s/80′s).
Teddy Bears (yep, those too).
Sewing (mum taught me).
Paper Tole (loved that too).
Mosaics (took up too much space and I missed paper).
Quilting (very brief encounter after buying all the stuff).
Stamp Making (wasn’t cost-effective for me).
Felt Toys (not entirely over these).

And there’s no doubt a whole heap more I’ve forgotten about. I’m a one-woman cottage industry… LOL. If it’s crafty you KNOW I’m going to want to give it a go.

Anyway, because I do so many different things (even though scrapping is still my absolute number 1), and because I’ve always had it in mind to do my own stuff, I decided it was time to just get on with it. So I’ve been playing with clay… and things like these are now in my store!

They’re cheap as chips compared to the resin variety and the work that goes into them, and they really do add a little something special to a page/card/project.

Keep an eye on the store for an awesome new product that I can’t wait to share with you (Janine, you know what I’m talking about)!! Yep it’s coming really soon…

Because I can…

Posted by Louise on Jan 24, 2010 in Family Updates

Ok firstly thank you all so much to taking the time to hit me over the head (verbally, not literally of course) about how I was feeling re: Joshie’s teeth. The good news is that they’ll be sorted on Tuesday and he’s now in much better dental habits, it’s just unfortunate the damage had already been done. Still… onwards and upwards! On another positive note my gorgeous little boy is back. His behaviour has been really good for the last week so I think we’ve turned a corner somewhere, and other than the odd 4 year old meltdown he’s an absolute joy to be around. Love my boys so much.

Mum and Dad (thank you!!!) had Joshie overnight last night and it gave me and Steve pretty much a night to ourselves so we had a date day/night. Lukey’s very low maintenance and goes to sleep around 8.30pm so we were able to just take time out, go veg at Borders with a coffee and mooch around doing whatever we felt like yesterday and this morning. It’s been a good weekend… :)

So, just because I can, I’ll let you know about my latest wee project. Eidou was my digital baby and when it got too much to manage with Lucas on the way I closed it down in its previous form. However it’s now back… www.eidou.com is my site. It’s all my stuff, everything I make in both physical and digi form and I hope you’ll pop over there and check it out. At the moment there’s just a few digi kits I’ve done previously but I have quite a few new items coming up (both digi and physical) so keep an eye out here and in the store… hope you like them :) Oh and check out the two free kits in the store too! I do a lot more than just scrapbook, I’ve been a crafter of every kind for years and when I need a break from scrapping I dig out my needles and get going on something else and Eidou will pretty much incorporate it all ;)

And don’t forget my RAK giveaway, you’ve got until the end of January to post a comment here: http://www.eidou.com/wordpress/?p=1132 and if you mention it and add the link to your blog somewhere (and let me know) you’ll double your chance to win! There’s lots of goodies in there so it’s worth being in the running ;) My trusty helper Mr J will be drawing a winner on Feb 1st :D

Bad mummy…

Posted by Louise on Jan 19, 2010 in Family Updates

Not feeling like the best mum in the world right now. Apart from Joshie’s behavioural issues rearing it’s blonde little head again, last night I discovered some decay in one of Joshie’s back teeth. :( I’m also aware of a small patch developing in his front tooth too, so 8am tomorrow we have our first trip to the dental nurse and I feel so sad.

I’ve really tried to instill into Joshie how important his teeth are, but with such a lack of fruit and veges and an overdose of not good stuff it was inevitable to a point. Up until about a year ago we also had great difficulty in brushing his teeth properly, he wouldn’t let you do it for long but that’s no excuse, I’m his mother and I should’ve done a better job. I feel so embarrassed and ashamed that at 4 he’s going to need 2 fillings. I really wanted to get him through his baby teeth without any.

As for his behaviour issues they come and go, he switches on and off like a tap which means we have good days without any/many problems and bad days where it all goes to hell in a handbasket by breakfast. This tells me a few things: a) he’s not autistic as we can tell him to quit it and he just does (and it has crossed my mind) and b) he’s just a very moody, attention seeking little boy.

So today he’s back to losing his toys, I’m moving his big toy unit into his cupboard and locking the door. He’s lost his bike for a whole week as he won’t stop trying to run the dog over, and will be awfully bored in an empty room I’m sure. I just don’t know what else to do, we’re really at wits end with him. It hurts to love him so much but not like him a whole lot or want to be around him right now. He’s doing anything he can, good or bad, for attention, and I mean ANYTHING.

I know a lot has changed in the last few months, he’s got a new brother, we’ve moved house, yep… things have changed and in a very short period of time. But it’s time he got over it already! This is a kid that holds onto things. It’s only in the last week that he’s let go of Christmas and stopped making me presents all the time. Some changes he adapts to quickly, it was no problem changing preschools. Other changes, BIG changes like the ones we’ve made recently, he takes a lot longer to accept. On the surface he’s fine, but then his insecurities come out in the conversations we have and I realise what’s going on in that little head of his. He was fine up until about last November, when we moved house. He loves the new place, loves his bedroom but I think he’s confused about why we still have the old house as he’s always asking me on the way home from somewhere which house we are going to. I think he’s insecure. I think he’s feeling usurped with Lucas… he’s a deep feeling little guy and I just wish we could make him realise just how much we love him.

Anyway, no scrapping to share today, got one in Australia for an upcoming Scrapbook Creations issue (my first time published in that one!) and one has been submitted for a book… should have a wee mini album to share with you soon though so keep tuned (it’s all twiddley and gorgeous)… ;)
