Like two peas…

I’ve been looking at some old photos of Joshie and I can’t believe just how much alike my two boys are.

Joshie is on the left, Lucas on the right…

So, so gorgeous… :)

that I have Altered Ambitions… yep my blog is no longer called Pieces of Me because, to be honest, I feel totally complete. I have a beautiful family with two beautiful boys, a hobby that fulfills my creative needs and a life I’m pretty dang satisfied with on the whole. Yes I’d like to achieve more. Yes I’d like to lose weight and get fit. Yes I’d love to win lotto. But whatever. All in all I’m happy.

And my ambitions are changing. I’m finding myself drawn more and more down an art track. My work is becoming more and more ‘altered’. My passion for finding old objects and reusing them in new and different ways is blossoming into something I’m just so excited about! I have a room quickly filling with ‘finds’ that are just screaming out to me to be made into something even more beautiful than they already are, my challenge is to do these amazing pieces of heritage justice.

I’ve also started an etsy shop where I’ll be selling my altered work. All of a sudden I think maybe I AM a bit of an artist after all. I don’t paint. I don’t sketch. And for so long I’ve seen these as the realm of the artist. But all of a sudden I’m just seeing things in a whole new light. And I’m excited by it.

Don’t get me wrong, I still adore scrapbooking. I still love paper and bling and putting my memories down in little pages of us and it’s something I’ll never give up. I do it for me. I do it for my boys. I do it for their future families. I wish my grandparents had done it for me – we’ve lost enough of our family history with the passing of our older relatives and I want to find out as much as I can from those who are left, and pass that history down to my boys.

I don’t know why but all of a sudden I just feel the urge to delve into these treasures of the past I’ve found and bring them to life as something new. I love layouts, I love creating digitally but I love working off the page even more. The dimension and skill, the details needed to make something remarkable out of something that was just flat chipboard or an old, unloved object… it’s a path I’m feeling pulled down and I’m not fighting it one iota.

So after all of this build up I have a lot to live up to. You’ll expect some amazing works of art and I hope to fulfill and exceed your expectations. I hope to fulfill and exceed my own. If I can get what’s in my head down into these works of art then maybe, just maybe, I’ll consider myself an artist after all.

Busy, busy!!

Posted by Louise on Mar 18, 2010 in Family Updates

Yep it HAS been a while and no I still can’t share yet… I’ve got some projects coming out in a couple of magazines shortly and once they’re published I’ll be able to share those. I’ve also got a couple of other projects in the works that I’m hoping to be able to share in the next month or two… other than that I’ve been working, designing, looking after my gorgeous boys and getting very little sleep.

Lucas has been teething and having growth spurts and is back to waking me up 3-4 times a night. He’s slept through only 2 days in the last 2 months and I’m tired. So tired. I wouldn’t mind if I could catch up during the day but I’ve got too much else to do in those precious few moments when Lukey’s asleep.

One of those things has involved this:

Nic Howard’s Dimensional Details class at Big Picture Scrapbooking

Brownheader Demdetail2

This 3 month workshop is going to be awesome!! So be quick to register (registrations close 7 April) or you’ll miss out on this amazing opportunity to learn from the best!

Also I’m working on my Twiddleybitz class for Megan’s Retreat coming up in September. Check out the details and register here: http://www.megansretreat.blogspot.com/ as places are going to fill up fast! These retreats are so much fun and I can’t wait – hope to see you there for some Twiddley fun! Oh and save some money to spend up large as the Scrapbook Outlet will be bringing their amazing products and setting up shop (so you know where you’ll find me!).

Sooo I’ll love ya and leave ya and get back to my todo list before the wee man wakes up again.
