Mary’s box
My grandmother’s name was Mary Box and she was a fantastic baker… her recipes were impossible to follow as you’d ask for measurements and she’d say a dash of this, a palmful of that… yet they usually turned out delicious. Her pastry was legendary too, and my uncle has attempted a number of times to create some of the things he grew up eating. The unfortunate thing is he never writes down the recipes… and sooo the Christmas present was born…

I digitally recreated all the recipes (from a very old and well loved cook book of hers) for things like Mushy Peas (yeuch), bakewells, Baked Egg Custard and the like and created them on a 6″ x 4″ size, which I then printed out as photos. Mum found this photo box at a stationery shop and I pried off the bright pink flowers and crackled, inked and modgepodged it to protect the surface.
I then added a crackled Twiddleybitz frame (gorgeous and one of the new releases!) and mirrored leaves, as well as some berries, leaves and flowers I had in my stash. I added details like a tiny Melissa Frances frame and a bird dome I made with a kit from Nostalgems. Finally I added a lovely photo of my grandmother, the title and an old spoon to act as a handle.
And that’s it! all done for Christmas and with a week to go… will wonders never cease?
